Building your first Game

You played a lot of games and sometimes wondered, this game would be way better if it had this feature or if the character could do this. Then you decided that I can make a way better game than this and make it awesome!, but when you start building your first game you find yourself in a hopeless situation, not knowing what to build or how how to rectify an error or the game does not look or work as you expected it to.

Building your first game is a very important step and must be started with as much patience as possible. What is important is to have a layout of what features will be in the game and what the theme of the game will be. Don't have very high hopes for your first game, because it usually takes a lot of time. Don't leave your project mid-flight thinking that it is impossible, I have seen a lot people do that. Always have patience and keep trying to make it better.

First thing that you need to know is that you will not be able to create a game of high level right of the bat, the high end graphic game that you play was made by a team of at-least 200-300 people, and that also over 2-3 months or it might even take years for some game to finish. This is because it takes a lot of time to write a code which will give the desired output, creating the environment of the game also take a lot time, it involves making each and everything that you want and placing it in its right place. Then the next and the difficult space is to configure the reaction of the all the AI's that have been created and making sure that there is no error. All I am trying to say is that all this usually takes a large team and a a lot of time, so don't loose hope after a few failed attempts.

Start with something simple and then build on it, never expect too much from your first game and then get disappointed  later. Build something easy but fun to play like for example make a game in which your character only jumps and ducks and avoid obstacles. Don't think that this is easy, it will also t
ake at-least a week. When you make your game which can do all this stuff or the stuff that you made then start adding to it, like build different levels or provide character customization.

I highly suggest that you start in a team and divide work between your team members. Working in a team is always helpful, you can get new ideas and the workload will be less. Choose your team members carefully, don;t choose someone with a negative attitude. In the end it is up to you.

The five key steps to build your first game are  ⇨

  • Choose a simple project.
  • Don't have very high hopes.
  • Learn everything step by step.
  • Don't quit, always keep trying.
  • Don't compare it with others, focus on your game.
  • Add levels and other customization options step by step.
Are you planning to publish your game, if Yes then I suggest to run a beta test first. A beta test means, before publishing your application you first give it to a small number of people and take their reviews on it and this is the best way to check if your game has any errors. If it does then try to remove them and build an error free game. And if you want more people to play it then make it as addictive you can, add great customization features and fun and interesting levels.

After all this your first game is ready to go live. It will be a small game but it will be your game. And building this game gave you a lot of experience and now you are ready to build something even better than this one.

Keep practicing and keep increasing your goal every-time you start making a game. Achieve that goal and then move on to something even more hard. A Step by Step way is the only way.

Anyway, if you are dedicated enough to make your first game than to make it better will always keep you going. I am also working on a small project and will surely let you all know when it is ready.
